A Day in the Life
Chris Coleman
E-mail encapsulated articles whizz past my head; proofread copies explode
at odd moments from underneath attachments. My two telnet sessions soon
multiply to three and four and beyond. I relentlessly search lost
archives and hidden e-mail drops for previously proofread items that have
escaped my clutches.
Its a veritable war zone on my desktop as I sit down at the last moment
and try to collect all the pieces that make up this issue of the Daemon
News. Its definately much more work than I had anticipated. The start of
the school season has had a enormous impact on the staff and writers. It
has especially taken a toll on both of the editors.
Even as I pen these remarks, two articles still elude me. They are caught
somewhere between half-dozen proofreaders I sent it to and the pile of
unsorted replies telling me they were either too busy or caught in a
hurricane and would not be able to help. Somewhere, in there, I am hoping
are the two missing articles that no-one seems to want to proofread. (Or I
just can't seem to find after they have been returned.)
As I pieced things together and collected all the parts, I began to notice
how well they fit together. This issue has some well written articles.
Ten minutes ago I couldn't see how we could even begin to call this an
issue. I had been too close to the issue; mostly dealing in article
names, shuffling copies, and marking them off the status report.
As I look at the near finished E-zine I feel a sense of accomplishment.
The level cooperation of the three different BSD's has impressed me. We
have good group volunteering on this project. To me this is the first
sign of BSD putting up a solid front, something Linux has been doing for a
long time.
We have a long way to go to educate the public on the virtues of the BSD
license and the strength of the "Daemons" in us. But we are getting
closer.
