NEW YORK (Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc all but waved the white flag in a dispute with publisher Macmillan that could lead to the online retailer raising prices on some of its e-books.

"Ultimately ... we will have to capitulate and accept Macmillan's terms because Macmillan has a monopoly over their own titles, and we will want to offer them to you even at prices we believe are needlessly high for e-books," Amazon said in a message to customers on its website.

Amazon said Macmillan told them that they want to charge $12.99 to $14.99 for e-book versions of bestsellers and most hardcover releases. Amazon currently charges $9.99 for the e-book version of most new releases and bestsellers.

President Barack Obama's budget proposal will call for tripling government loan guarantees for new nuclear reactors, an administration official said on Friday, a move sure to win over some Republican lawmakers who want more nuclear power to be part of climate change legislation.

The $54 billion in loan guarantees, which follows Obama's pledge in his State of the Union address to expand nuclear power production, will be announced as part of Obama's proposed 2011 budget that will be sent to Congress on Monday.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc has removed all e-books published by Macmillan from its website after a dispute over pricing, according to media reports.

Amazon's website, as well as the site for its Kindle e-reader, on Sunday showed titles published by Macmillan, including "Sarah's Key" by Tatiana de Rosnay, available only through third parties.
